A clean Christian romance set after the Civil War is over and ex-soldiers are on the move. Ruth and what's left of her family must start all over from scratch, including finding a new place to live. She wants to be independent and never have to depend on a man to take care of her, but when she meets a handsome sheriff she has second thoughts. He wonders if he can ever penetrate the hard shell she's built around her heart, and he hadn't planned on trusting another woman either, but he's more willing to give a second chance a try than she is. A page-turner. I saw where one reader said you could skip parts and not miss a thing. Those type of reviews are so wrong because if you enjoy a good, clean, Christian read, you don't want to miss a thing, and I've read the book and would not skip parts because you really would. The only thing that disappointed me was I thought it was more about the Civil War and didn't realize the war was over, but it was still a wonderful read that kept me reading and turning pages. I highly recommend it. I saw a strawberry simile and thought I was the only author who'd use one like that. Guess I'm not. I used them in my first romantic suspense novel and probably a few others. I loved how the author brought her characters to life and made the read so visual. A few mistakes that did not detract from the story.BJ Robinson, Author of over twenty books, novellas, and short stories

Ruth Redemption Woman of Courage Cynthia Hickey 9781495381188 Books Reviews
read in 2 days, was very good and no raw sex in it. Was about a family that lost the pa and ma and their home and money if Ruth had not of went after it and got it she did and felt bad about killing the bad guy.she and her family went as far as she could.a great read
A book with a heroine who absolutely will not give up. She isn't perfect and she fights change as much as she fights for her family. She fights love the most, but love has a way of sneaking up on one. An interesting, intriguing and entertaining read.
This book appears to be light reading on the surface. However, within the chapters lie many nuggets of truth. These truths can reinforce accepted values or initiate new ones. The book was a delight and well worth the time. Most enjoyable.
This book was riveting. It made me feel like I was there experiencing everything the characters were. You really learn to care about them and how it will turn out. If all that really happened to one person, not sure they would survive.
But it is a real page turner and worth anyone's time to read.
Good story, interesting characters and a reminder, lest we forget, nothing is too heavy to carry with the help of our Lord. That with forgiveness we can shed our burdens into the Lord's hands and lift our hearts to embrace joy again.
First there's despair in losing her parents to such a horrific death. Desolation borne from accidentally killing one of the men who committed this act and took their money. Escape to a new place as far away as possible . But one can never leave the pass behind it always has a way of catching up with you as we've seen in this story. Finally with much struggle, hard work and forgive Ruth experienced the healing balm of God's love.
Apart from a mix up with the names at times also not understanding how Marsha could have disclosed Ruth's whereabouts it was a good read.
Once again, Cynthia Hickey has written a story that gripped me from the first sentence. As a long time fan of Ms. Hickey's cozy mysteries, I'm delighted to discover this wonderful historical romance.
After her parents are killed, Ruth escapes the murderers by taking her grandmother and younger sisters as far down the White River as they can afford to go. Landing in a town almost entirely populated by men, Ruth opens a restaurant which quickly fills with costomers. She soon discovers, however that it's not only home cooking they're starving for. Thankful for the protection of the handsome town sheriff, she isn't too sure what his motives are either. Besides, she holds a secret that, if exposed, could ruin her and her family's chances for a secure future.
Post civil warm and set on the banks of the White River midst the lovely Ozarks hills of Arkansas, Ruth's Redemption is one of the best books I've read in a long time.
